Artist and cultural revivalist Charles Munroe was chosen for this year’s “Northern California Artists Award,” as well as the “Award of Merit” at the 2016 California State Fair.  This visual arts exhibition “is recognized as one of the Golden state’s largest and most prestigious juried art shows.”  Munroe’s award-winning painting, “Washoe Stick Game,” is a vibrant depiction of a centuries-old game played by Washoe women in the Tahoe/Nevada region.  Munroe has brilliantly captured a moment of determination, camaraderie, and jubilation – “a moment,” he says, “that shows the true nature of the Washoe women.”  Munroe’s heart is for the indigenous peoples of North America, especially the Washoe.

Munroe’s works can be seen at the Nevada Museum of art in Reno, NV, the Black Pearl Gallery in South Lake Tahoe, CA, the Donner Museum in Truckee, CA, the August, 2015 edition of Style Magazine–El Dorado County, and the California State Fair, July 8-24, 2016 at the Cal Expo in Sacramento, CA.
